Swapped the cable around and the sound persisted in the left. Listening to 650s today and noticed a slight buzzing in the left channel. They're affordable so the better and easier option is to buy one and make your opinion. The point is I'm not convinced that someone who loves a HE5LE will really love a HD650. It sounds dryer from what I remember and it's a good thing considering I still think the HD650 si bit too lush sometimes. The HE5LE is less consistent and less refined overally. They make me feel all characteristics of the headphone is blended harmoniously. Lusher and beautiful mids, smooth treble, more resolution, more soundstage layering and overally HD6x0 are maybe the most consistent heaphones I know. For everything else a well ampled HD650 with new pads (and mods) wins hand down. So it hits harder, faster, stronger that a HD650 will ever do. IMO, the HE5LE has more impact in the bass and low end extension. But HE5LE and HD650 are very different and somewhat complementary. Hi Mate, I definitely think the HD650 is a better headphone. EDIT: Phil, I'm more concerned about what the hell happened to the top of your clothes dryer. It shows only the older/black plates for the 600, but the color/look is the same. Tyll has a very useful comparison picture. The difference between the old/black and newer/silver driver plate is pretty stark. I can't recall having seen the serial number visibly printed on any headphone I've owned.

Definitely have the newer metal mesh driver plate. I also got mine recently from Sonic Electronix, and have the same packaging setup, with similar serial number. Click to expand.Don't worry, your 650's are alright.
